On my gluten-free journey, I’m trying out a variety of foods and giving them either a thumbs up or down. Here are a few foods I give a thumbs up to…
UDI’S GLUTEN FREE PIZZA CRUSTS
A life without pizza isn’t a life at all (I say the same for bacon)! So far, the tastiest product I’ve found is Udi’s Gluten Free pizza crusts, in which I add the toppings. This past week I made one of these with my simple homemade sauce and it was delicious! You should find these in the freezer section of your grocery store (the health food freezer).
GLUTINO TABLE CRACKERS
I honestly can not tell these are gluten-free, as they taste just like any table cracker. I’ve been enjoying mine with fig spread or blueberry jam and either gouda cheese or mild cheddar and pears. These certainly beat any of those rice crackers, that to me, taste like drywall (so if you’re new to gluten-free, take my advice and avoid the rice crackers).
PAMELA’S AGAVE SWEETENED BUTTER SHORTBREAD COOKIES
And yes, cookies are an essential part of any diet, too. When I have time, I make my own, but when I want the quick fix these cookies will do just fine. Again, they don’t taste gluten-free and have a sweet buttery flavor to them with a nice crumbly texture.
As time goes on, I promise to include many of my experiments, including recipes as well as off-the-shelf products to help save you money (and disappointment when you spend $5 on a box of something that’s inedible).
