Quick Rice with Flavor

I know that many people are very busy these days and often turn to those unhealthy "boxed or bagged" convenience foods.  Foods like Hamburger Helper, Campbell’s Selects Meals or Lipton Pasta and Rice side dishes.  These foods contain very high sodium contents, hydrogenated oils, trans fats and usually artificial ingredients along with perservatives.

On the other hand people want foods that are quick to make.  So here are a few ideas for making easy and fast rice that has lots of flavor and is all natural. Use any of these suggestions (or mix a few together) with regular rice. (


  1. Substitute 1/2 of the water with juice, such as orange, cranberry, or pineapple.
  2. Use Broth instead of water
  3. Get a microwaveable rice cooker. (I like the one made by Pampered Chef, but I am sure you can find one similar at your local store).  I love my rice cooker from PC, it is easy, easy, easy to use.
  4. Add fresh garlic and herbs to the dish just before lowering heat to a simmer.
  5. Add pre-mixed natural seasonings such as cajun seasoning, Mrs. Dash, or Emeril’s seasonings.
  6. Add green onions just before serving.
